Bioinformatics Journal Club meetings are Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Academic and Research Center 314.
On Sept. 9 Krystine Garcia leads the discussion on the article “An explosion of Bioinformatics Careers.”
Discussion questions:
- What three fields are at the “crossroads” of bioinformatics?
- According to W. Jim Zheng, what has caused the increase in the amount of data produced?
- Explain the three types of organizational structure for bioinformatics positions.
- List five skills that are required for pursuing a bioinformatics career. (There are more than five stated.)
- What is the Insight Data Science Fellows Program?
- There were several companies used as examples throughout the article. Choose one company and explain how they are using bioinformatics. You might have to go to their website, too.
