Ohio University alumna Victoria Anton ’20, now pursuing an M.A. in Sociology at OHIO, authored an op-ed in the Athens News headlined What can happen behind closed doors and how to fix it for justice-involved families.
With the onset of the COVID-19 global health pandemic, prison populations have been a hot-button issue. Ongoing conversations among the public have included a call to reduce the prison population in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 among the incarcerated.

Anton worked on the op-ed for Sociology 6090: Sociology of Prisoner Reentry, where students write opinion pieces that translate social science research on prisoner reentry to the public. The course is taught by Dr. Nicole Kaufman, Assistant Professor of Sociology.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts & Sciences at OHIO, doubling majoring in Psychology and Sociology-Criminology. She also earned a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
