Dr. Jessica White and Dr. Travis White, both Assistant Professors of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Ohio University, and members of their research labs participated in the 2019 Ohio Inorganic Weekend at the University of Toledo on Nov. 1-2.
Ohio Inorganic Weekend is a student-focused meeting for inorganic chemistry groups in Ohio and nearby states. This conference has been held every fall since 2000, and it is hosted each year by a different university or college. This year, there were 120 poster presentations and 19 oral presentations, all from graduate and undergraduate students.
Sarah Roell takes first at Ohio Inorganic Weekend.
Sarah Roell, an undergraduate researcher in Travis White’s lab, won first place in the undergraduate poster competition sponsored by Chemical Science. Her poster was on “Varying substituent positions of Re(I)-phenanthroline complexes to impact electrocatalytic CO2 reduction.”
Three graduate students also presented posters:
- Sima Saeedi (T. White lab): “Investigating aniline-based electron donors used for the photocatalytic production of hydrogen”
- Shabnam Pordel (J. White lab): “Impact of ancillary ligand variation on the photophysical properties and formation of photochemical intermediates of Mn(I) photoCORMs”
- Rachael Pickens (J. White lab): “Visible light release of CO and singlet oxygen photosensitizer from Ru(II),Group(VII) bimetallic complexes”
