The OHIO Student Farm held its last produce sale the first week of November, ending the fall season.
The OHIO Student Farm utilizes a high tunnel and row covers to extend the normal growing seasons, thus providing more fresh produce on campus for longer into the fall. But now that frost temperatures have arrived, garden plots at the farm have been “put to bed” for the winter, and students are preparing the farm for the colder weather months.
The final sale of the year was held at Grover Center, and despite the season ending, there were an abundance of vegetables for sale, ranging from greens, to root vegetables, to cabbage, broccoli and sweet peppers. As the produce selection at the markets have varied throughout the semester, students and market customers learn and see for themselves what it means to eat seasonally. Customers have particularly enjoyed the arrival of colder weather crops like squash, broccoli and cauliflower.
The OHIO Student Farm would like to thank everyone for their support this fall and looks forward to supplying Ohio University with fresh and local produce again in the spring! Please stay tuned for spring semester sales, which will likely start in March 2019.
