Dr. Sarah Poggione, Associate Professor & Chair of Political Science at Ohio University, participates in a “Women in Politics” panel, part of the Ohio University Associated Press Sports Editors “90 Minutes Series,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Morton Hall 201.

The talk is free and open to the public.

The “90 Minutes” series, which is now in its third year, creates discussions on politics, racism, sexism and global topics.

During the talk, student moderator Katie Pittman will lead four women in a discussion about the obstacles that have prevented them and their peers from taking their rightful places in the halls of politics.

The four panelists are: Cleveland.com political reporter Mary Kilpatrick; Republican State Representative Christina Hagan; Democratic State Representative Catherine Ingram; and Ohio University Associate Professor and Chair of Political Science Sarah Poggione.

The role of women in politics is not often discussed and gender inequality in politics has fostered governance that isn’t representative of American society. In an ever-changing world, one of those changes should come in politics. For more than three centuries, men have had their chance, so why shouldn’t women?

Additional sponsors of the “90 Minutes Series” include: Black Student Cultural Programming Board; Housing and Residence Life; Office of Student Affairs; E.W. Scripps School of Journalism; Honors Tutorial College; Multicultural Center; Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics and the Office of the President.
