The Athens Messenger reported May 3 that “Jean Demosky of Athens has been hired as director of Athens County Job and Family Services and will begin May 14, the county commissioners have announced.”
Demosky earned two degrees from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University—a bachelor’s degree in Sociology Pre-Law and an M.A. in Sociology.
Demosky is currently director of the Area 14 Workforce Development Board, through which federal funds for local jobs programs flow. The board serves Athens, Meigs and Perry counties, and she was hired a year ago for that position — replacing Zielinski after he took the job of Job and Family Services (JFS) director….
“We look forward to Jean leading the department,” Commission President Lenny Eliason said in a news release. “Her work in the past has demonstrated an ability to get things done.”
Commissioner Charlie Adkins said Demosky’s experience in labor relations and management was an important factor to him when the decision was made to hire her.
She was on the labor-management team while working for Facilities and Auxiliaries at Ohio University. She has worked in several positions at OU and is currently an adjunct instructor of sociology at OU-Lancaster. From 2006 to 2017 she was with the Office of Information Technology at the university.
