The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (INPP) presents Elton S. Smith, of Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, presenting “Photoproduction at 12 GeV with Glue X,” on Tuesday, January 17, at at 4 p.m. in Edwards Accelerator Lab, Roger W. Finlay Conference Room.
Abstract: We have mounted the GlueX experiment in Hall D at Jefferson Lab devoted to the study of hybrid mesons. Their existence and properties will yield fundamental information regarding the force that confines quarks. The ability to produce these new particles is made possible by the recent project to double the energy of the Jefferson Lab accelerator. We will give an introduction to the properties and spectrum of hadrons, give the status of the experiment, and present some early physics results that are accessible with the available data.
