Math Alum Joins Ohio University Foundation Board

The Ohio University Foundation Board of Trustees welcomes four new trustees to the Bobcat family this fall.

Mathematics alum David “Dave” P. Levy joins, along with Casey A. Christopher, Dr. Daryl R. Sybert, and R. Scott Durcanin. They were elected to the board during the June 2016 Foundation Board meeting. The first official board meeting for the new trustees was Nov. 3.

“We are delighted to welcome the newly-elected Foundation Board Trustees. The leadership that our trustees provide is critical to the operations of the Foundation and furthering OHIO’s mission,” said J. Bryan Benchoff, president and CEO of The Ohio University Foundation and vice president of University Advancement. “We are always looking for new and talented people who represent a broad cross-selection of colleges, geographic locations, and graduation decades, and who will bring their expertise, talents and skill sets to the table to help us do all that we do.”

Levy of Hilliard, Ohio, graduated summa cum laude from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.

Levy has spent most of his career working in information technology for the American Chemical Society in Columbus, Ohio. He led ACS’s software engineering departments in building systems to facilitate chemical information discovery for researchers. He also supported the global information services, customer help desk and technical support teams.

Levy is credited with creating and publishing more than 50 scholarly journals for the ACS library. Levy retired from full-time work at ACS but stays on part-time as a consultant. With an indulgence and passion for road cycling, he is a long-time volunteer for the Pedal-with-Pete Foundation, helping to run one of several charity bike rides that supports Cerebral Palsy research.

Levy looks forward to learning more about OHIO during his time as a trustee.

“I am honored for this opportunity to learn more about the University and its operation while working with such a talented and diverse group of board members and staff,” he said. “I am very motivated to help make education at OHIO accessible to more students, providing them with a chance to learn and grow as I did at this fine institution.”
