CLJC Announces Open House on Legal Implications of the Elections, Nov. 14

The Center for Law, Justice & Culture announces an informal open house for all members of the Ohio University campus community from 1 – 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, to discuss the legal and political implications of the 2016 election and its results.

The Open House will take place in Bentley Hall, Room 001 on the ground floor.

“This event is open-ended. We anticipate that this will be the beginning of an ongoing conversation,” says CLJC Director Haley Duschinski.

Faculty and students will discuss urgent legal issues including freedom of speech, the use of police powers, the independence of the judiciary, racial justice, criminal justice reforms, immigration and citizenship, LGBTQ rights, freedom of religion, mass incarceration, gender equality, surveillance and privacy, governance and transparency, the Geneva Conventions, and others.

All students are encouraged to come to the CLJC Open House to talk with faculty about any of these issues.

“We hope that all interested students and faculty will begin working together to respond to the challenges we are collectively facing as a society,” Duschinski says.

Also, please note that the History Department and the Contemporary History Institute are hosting a discussion of the 2016 Presidential election with interested students at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15, in 306 Bentley Hall.

The History Department’s informal forum will include history faculty: Dr. Katherine Jellison, Dr. Chester Pach, Dr. Assan Sarr, Dr. John Brobst, Dr. Paul Milazzo, and Dr. Steven Miner.

These faculty members will share their professional insights, answer questions, and engage your views.  Light refreshments will be served as the discussion proceeds. All are welcome. Please contact Dr. Katherine Jellison for more information.
