Burkett graduated with her B.A. in Sociology from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.
She is now principal of Evaluation Works, a performance consultancy in Davis, CA, and is passionate about developing resilient learning and performance capabilities that foster high engagement, drive operational excellence, and create sustainable value.
Formerly with Apple Computer, she has clients including the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, Chevron, the UC Davis Talent Management Center of Expertise, and the National Security Agency.
The World Training and Development Congress recently recognized Burkett’s contributions to learning and development with the 2017 Global Training and Development Leadership Award, to be presented in Mumbai, India on Feb. 15, 2017.
‘A Trusted Resource’
Burkett holds a Ph.D. in human capital development and master’s degree in human resources and organization development.
With original case studies from the public and private sector, including the U.S. Army, the Tennessee Department of Human Resources, and Blue Shield of California, Burkett shows how to build a sustainable learning culture that engages talent, sparks innovation, and optimizes performance, despite the churn of constant change.
”Packed with practical strategies, proven daily practices, assessment tools, and more, Learning for the Long Run is a trusted resource that you will turn to again and again,” says Amy Dufrane, CEO HR Certification Institute.
Learning Cultures
New or seasoned professionals involved in learning and development, talent management, human resources or organization development, or higher education, will find proven tips, tools, and lessons learned from others who are actively transforming their learning culture to ensure its long-term strategic value.
Executives, directors, or business managers will find compelling testimonials from other executives and sponsors who are actively serving as leader-teachers in their workplace and who have successfully leveraged learning as a key driver for high performance. Consultants will find insights from other consultants who have helped shape learning cultures from the outside in.
Educators and students will find this book to be an important supplement to other learning, Human Resources, performance improvement, or Organization Development textbooks because it provides the extra dimensions of real-world case studies, diagnostic assessments, and job aids.
Learning Helps Weather Disruptions
“Regardless of your title or role, learning is likely to be an important element of any strategy or solution you put in place,” Burkett says.
“Understanding how learning works, and how mature learning cultures can help weather frequent business disruptions to optimize performance and engagement, will enhance your effectiveness as a strategic adviser and decision maker.”
