Ohio University alum Tatiana Dolgushina ’12 “wants to tackle a question that, up until now, has not been clearly answered,” writes Frank Garza in the Brownsville Herald.
Dolgushina, now a graduate student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, earned a B.S. in Wildlife and Conservation Biology from the College of Arts & Sciences. Her adviser was Dr. Scott Moody, Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences.
Dolgushina’s goal is to travel to Venezuela to study the Green-rumped Parrotlets so she can describe the complex babbling stage of developing chicks.
Dolgushina says the project is a behavioral study that can change how people think about the evolution and development of communication.
“It’s a really big statement to make, but it’s kind of the goal of many behavioral studies (to understand how humans relate to other animals),” Dolgushina said. “Parrots are so complex socially and behaviorally that they share many behavioral similarities to humans.”
