The Center for Law, Justice & Culture welcomes Ohio State University Professor Isaac Weiner to OHIO on Wednesday, April 6 for a public lecture and meetings with faculty and students.
His lecture is titled “The Call to Prayer in America: Amplifying or Muting Religious Differences?” It will be held on Wednesday at 5pm in Baker 231.
The lecture will draw out material from his book, revisiting the call to prayer issue and linking it to contemporary debates about Muslims, pluralism, law, and justice.
Professor Weiner will be available for informal conversation with students at CLJC (Wednesday 2:30-4:00pm), where he will talk about a current mapping and recording project of religious soundscapes. This informal discussion is open to all students.
He will also join Liliana Segura for an informal pizza lunch at CLJC on Wednesday from 12:00-2:00. All faculty and students are welcome to drop by for this as well.
Isaac Weiner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Studies at OSU. A religious studies scholar, his recent book is titled Religion Out Loud: Religious Sound, Public Space, and American Pluralism. It addresses legal struggles around noise ordinances in relation to religious sound, with a third of the book focused on a mosque in Hamtramck, MI.
The event is co-sponsored by the Center for International Studies and the Center for Law, Justice & Culture.
