What is Americorps*VISTA?

Americorps*VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Through their one-year commitment, they focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of non-profit organizations that fight poverty in low-income communities.

What is FoodWorks Alliance?

FoodWorks Alliance logoFoodWorks Alliance is a food hub and commercial kitchen incubator located in Zanesville. It serves the surrounding area of Southeastern Ohio.

Job Description

The Americorps*VISTA will achieve lasting solutions to poverty by serving to build the capacity of FoodWorks Alliance and develop programs that will impact the economic development, food security, and local food system of Southeastern Ohio.

Duties will include:

  • Developing the programs of FoodWorks Alliance, including those to teach low-income individuals about food and cooking to improve their own health and quality of life.
  • Raising awareness of the alliance and its programs in the community.
  • Building partnerships with local organizations to increase food access and build the local food system.
  • Creating community events to support the project and goals.
  • Recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Mobilizing resources both in and outside the community and writing grants that will increase the alliance’s capacity to grow the local economy by producing local foods, grow small food businesses, and educate the community on healthy cooking and food preservation.

Desired job skills include leadership, business/entrepreneur, communications, computer skills, fundraising and grant writing. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
