The Physics & Astronomy Colloquium Series presents Arkady Pikovsky of the Potsdam University, Germany on “Chaotic destruction of Anderson localization in nonlinear lattices” on Friday, March 18, at 4:10 p.m. in Walter 245.
Abstract: Anderson localization is a universal phenomenon preventing transport in disordered linear media. I discuss how nonlinearity affects the localization, via numerical studies of different setups: by following spreading of an initially bounded wave packet, and determining transparency of a finite disordered layer. I discuss difficulties in finding an asymptotic regime, and describe scaling approaches aimed at understanding it.
