Description: The goal of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of research on the development of religious beliefs, the psychological functions that religious beliefs have on people’s personal and social lives, and the factors that lead people to become more or less religious. It examines the differences between religions and cults, the belief in miracles, and the conflicts that arise in behaving in accordance with one’s religious beliefs. The course is designed to stimulate students to think about religious topics in new ways, whether this involves strengthening existing beliefs, leading them to question pre-existing beliefs, or simply encouraging them to think about facets of religious beliefs that they had not previously considered.
