Classical for Everyone presents Terry Barbar, Tenor & Countertenor, with Mark Bilyeu, collaborative pianist, in a concert Thursday, Dec. 3, at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Mill St., Athens.

A countertenor with an extreme range, and versatile voice, Terry Barber is equally at home in the concert hall, recording studio, theater, and opera house. In what the LA Times calls “Great performances of vitality and verve,” he has been a soloist for the world’s best venues from Carnegie Hall, to Moscow’s Svetlanov Hall and was a member of multiple Grammy-winning Chanticleer. He can be heard on every major record label with artists from Madonna to the London Philharmonic.

International provider of vocal, choral adviser for Nelly’s Ex’treme recording institute, Barber cares deeply about arts education for all. He has both a master’s in historically informed performance and a Postgraduate Performance Certificate with Distinction from Trinity College, London. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, as well as music technology & musical theater certificates.

Barber founded Artists For A Cause Inc., a nonprofit which helps visual & performing artists to meet critical community needs. His most recent recording, “Christmas Presence” features Denyce Graves, produced by 17-time Grammy winner, Steven Epstein.

Lauded as “superb partner” by schubert.org, Mark Bilyeu is in high demand as a collaborative pianist for premiers of new music, recitals, concerts, masterclasses, and song festivals around the globe. Founder of the Song Source Festival, he has served as music director with Chicago Opera Vanguard, Chicago Folks Operetta, Ensemble113, and pianist for Minnesota Concert Opera, VocalEssence, Silver Swan, Chicago Choral Artists, and for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. His collaboration with mezzo-soprano, Clara Osowski has taken him around the world.

A graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts (2009), he holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree as well as a master’s degree in Vocal Coaching & Accompanying from the University of Minnesota.
