The Logan Daily used weather analysis from the Ohio University Scalia Laboratory of Atmospheric Analysis in its reporting on extreme weather June 13. The Scalia Laboratory is operated by the Department of Geography in the College of Arts & Sciences.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the Ohio University Scalia Labratory of Atmospheric Analysis indicated that a major severe weather event is currently unfolding across the southern half of Ohio.
A line of severe thunderstorms with a history of damaging winds is currently entering northwest Ohio.
“This line of storms is forecast to rapidly dive southeast into Southeast Ohio over the next couple of hours at a speed of 60 miles per hour,” reported Kyle Clem, associate director of Scalia Labratory, in the most recent forecast. “The storms are expected to remain severe, with widespread damaging winds possible across all of Southeast Ohio.”
“With strong wind shear present near the surface, isolated tornadoes will also be a possibility along and ahead of the main line of storms,” he continued.
