Drs. Morgan Vis and Nukhet Sandal have been named as associate deans in the College of Arts & Sciences, announced Dean Florenz Plassmann.
Vis will start as Associate Dean on Jan. 3. Sandal will join as faculty fellow on Jan. 3 and become Associate Dean on May 16, when Dr. Sarah Poggione assumes the position of Vice Provost. They will work with Senior Associate Dean Brian McCarthy, who expects to return part-time to the college in January.
“Morgan and Nukhet bring a great deal of experience and institutional knowledge to the college. They both have chaired and served on many committees across the college and the university, and both are past recipients of the University Professor Award that recognizes outstanding teaching at Ohio University,” Plassmann said.
Vis joined Ohio University in 1996 and was promoted to her current rank of professor in 2008. She has served as chair of the Environmental & Plant Biology Department in the College of Arts & Sciences, as president of two academic societies, and as associate editor and editorial board member of three academic journals. She has supervised more than 40 dissertations, M.S. theses, and undergraduate researchers, and she brings considerable success and experience with securing external funding.
Sandal joined Ohio University in 2013 and was promoted to her current rank of associate professor in 2017. She has served as director of War and Peace Studies and Global Studies in the Center for International Studies. She is currently chair of the Political Science Department in the College of Arts & Sciences and serves as editor and editorial board member of six scholarly publications. She has been a supervisor and member of over 20 dissertation, M.A., and honors thesis committees.
“I want to express my sincere thanks to Howard Dewald, who had agreed on very short notice to serve as interim associate dean until the end of 2021 and whose help during this fall semester has been invaluable,” Plassmann added.
