Dr. Susan Burgess will serve as Chair of the Law and Courts Section of the American Political Science Association.
Burgess is Distinguished Professor of Political Science and a faculty affiliate of the Center for Law, Justice & Culture ay Ohio University. She has held a number of leadership positions at APSA.
Founded in 1983, the Law & Courts section of APSA seeks to promote interest in teaching and research in the areas of law and the judicial process. Law & Courts is one of the APSA’s largest sections. The section maintains a public discussion list – LAWCOURT-L, the peer-reviewed journal Journal of Law and Courts, the widely read on-line book review Law and Politics Book Review, and a section newsletter published multiple times each year called Law and Courts Newsletter.
Burgess’ areas of interest in American politics include law and courts, radical politics, gender and sexuality, and popular culture. She is the author of The CQ Guide to Radical Politics in the United States (with Kate Leeman, CQ/SAGE); The New York Times on Gay and Lesbian Issues (CQ/SAGE); The Founding Fathers, Pop Culture, and Constitutional Law: Who’s Your Daddy? (Ashgate) and Contest for Constitutional Authority: The Abortion and War Powers Debates (Kansas). She is also a co-editor of LGBTQ Politics: A Critical Reader (with Marla Brettschneider and Cricket Keating, NYU).
