Students for Law, Justice & Culture has appointed a new executive board for the upcoming school year.
Students for Law, Justice & Culture is a student organization affiliated with Ohio University’s Center for Law, Justice, and Culture. The organization supports CLJC programming and academic and research endeavors. SLJC also provides a space for students to discuss issues relating to the themes of law, justice and culture.
Luvina Cooley will serve as the organization’s newest president, Hannah Fleming is the vice president, Cheyenne Knavel is the secretary, Julia Howell is public outreach, and the events coordinator is Catherine Lawrence.
This past year, the group focused on reproductive justice, creating a community-based Reproductive Justice Zine, and worked on a mini-expo for OHIO students who wanted to display their hard work on thesis research projects to their peers.
“We are a group of students from a diverse array of students who are passionate about law, social justice, and different cultures,” Cooley says.
“We’re planning on organizing discussions about focusing on current events, history and a broad array of perspectives on these issues. Intersectionality and health are two big topics that we want to discuss, and we hope to bring in more faculty members to discuss these topics with and also schedule more documentary/film screenings,”Cooley adds.
“We’re looking forward to getting a larger presence on campus and really have people engaged in the work that we do,” Fleming says.
The group’s meetings are at 6 p.m. on Mondays in the CLJC lounge in Bentley Hall.
