Being from Pittsburgh, I am a fan of the well-known restaurant, Primanti Brothers, whose sandwiches are a Pittsburgh classic.
Primanti Brothers has been around for many years. Nothing quite beats the restaurant’s sandwiches and fun atmosphere. The specialty sandwich that 90 percent of people get is called “The Pittsburgher,” a sandwich full of deliciousness.
This sandwich has grilled meat, melted cheese, an oil & vinegar-based coleslaw, tomato slices, and French fries between two thick slices of Italian bread. Primanti Brothers’ famous Pittsburgh sandwich supposedly began as a lunch for local steel mill workers. The sandwich was to be an entire lunch by having sides inside the bread like coleslaw and french fries.
While at school, I could not eat my favorite sandwich from Primanti Brothers, so I made my own! If you are not from Pittsburgh, you can enjoy the similar wonderful taste that Primianti Brothers would give someone in their restaurant!
Ingredients:
- 2 slices thick-cut Italian bread
- Sliced pastrami (or your favorite type of meat)
- 2 slices provolone cheese
- Handful French fries
- Handful oil and vinegar coleslaw
- 2 slices tomato
Directions:
- Build your sandwich by layering the pastrami, provolone cheese, French fries, coleslaw, and tomato on a slice of bread. Top with the other slice of bread. Cut the sandwich in half and enjoy with some extra fries and Heinz ketchup!
