January 2020 Alumni e-newsletter
Greetings to friends and alumni of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. Fall was a busy term.
In October one of our alums, Professor Zainuriah Hassan (Ph.D. 1998, Marty Kordesch), came all the way from Malaysia to receive the College of Arts & Sciences Notable Alumni Award. She spent time sharing her experiences with our graduate students and with our Women in Physics group. She is the Director of the Institute of Nano Optoelectronics Research and Technology at the Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Our Nov. 9, the Physics & Astronomy Open House was organized, as usual, by Mark Lucas, who has a talent for drawing together, faculty, students, and staff to this event where we take over all the hallways and classrooms of Clippinger Labs. We hosted 1,000 people, many young people from in the surrounding community.
I want to thank all the alumni who keep in touch with us through their advisers or through LinkedIn. We love to hear from you and follow your careers. Our current students would appreciate you coming back to Athens to meet with them. They really do want to hear how other students have established their careers. Consider this an open invitation to return and see us.
David Ingram
Professor and Chair of Physics & Astronomy
