The Ohio University Career and Leadership Development Center hosts a Black Excellence Panel Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Amanda J. Cunningham Leadership Center, Backer Center 366.
Hear the stories of the panelists and ask questions about the different industries represented. There is also a networking portion of the event to allow students to connect with the panelists and continue the conversation.
2020 Panelists
Dr. Tanisha King-Taylor is a three-time alumna of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, having earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, a master’s degree in Social Work and a Ph.D in Education Policy Organization and Leadership. Her research centers on black women, microaggressions and the myth of the strong black woman. King-Taylor is an author, speaker and consultant who currently serves as the Interim Chief Inclusion Officer for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine with Ohio University. She has served as a professor and field adviser for Fordham University as well as adjunct professor for the University of Illinois School of Social Work. Her inaugural book, Out of Battle into Freedom,” was accepted into the 2017 NAACP Author Pavilion and has been described on Amazon reviews as “incredible” and a “must read.” King-Taylor is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, was featured on WEFT 90.1 FM, has served as a panelist on a Black Lives Matter news special aired on WCIA 3, and is a member of the Champaign County Board. She plans to launch a podcast, The Tanisha King-Taylor Show, soon where she will discuss social justice, politics, women empowerment and more.
Allison Hunter is the Editor-in-Chief of WOUB Public Media in Athens, Ohio. Before leading the multimedia news team at the NPR & PBS member station, Hunter created more than 3,000 hours of live broadcasts and managed staff in some of the nation’s busiest newsrooms, including Chicago’s WGN-TV and KTLA in Los Angeles. She also produced the very first newscasts on WXIX (Cincinnati), and WOIO (Cleveland), an award-winning independent film, commercials, and the Emmy-award winning, Chicago-based public-affairs broadcast, Off 63rd. Hunter is an alumna of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism (BS ’89, MS ’15).
Stephen Adams is the owner and founder of Odyssey Nutrition. In fall 2018, Odyssey Nutrition opened a new location in Athens, OH located on Union Street. Odyssey Nutrition is a local nutrition club that serves healthy meal replacement smoothies and herbal teas in a positive and fun environment. Stephen is a former athlete and Herbal Life Coach. He has been able to bring his love for fitness and health to life through facilitating fitness workshops and seminars. Stephen is a proud Alum on Ohio University and even proud to be serving the Athens community.
