Following graduation, Jenna Richards ’14 ’15M worked as an assistant manager at Sherwin-Williams Paints. Afterwards, she worked as a corporate recruiter for Kroger.
She earned her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology with a Certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University. She stayed in Athens to complete her M.A. in Sociology.
Currently, Richards is working as the talent acquisition specialist at DuBois Chemicals. She handles all job openings in the US and Canada. She is responsible for developing and fulfilling strategies to attract and hire high quality candidates through channels such as social media, job boards, and the company’s careers website. She handles college recruiting programs as well, determining universities to visit and participating in employment events, such as career fairs.
Richards sees the recruitment process through end-to-end. This includes discussing job profiles with hiring managers, building the sourcing strategy, maintaining relationships with candidates throughout recruitment, conducting interviews, and finally, to offering positions. She also coordinates new hire orientation, working to make it as rewarding an experience as possible.
Her OHIO Experience
While a graduate student she facilitated an online class, moderating and grading online discussion boards. She was the fundraising chair for the Bobcats for Suicide Prevention Campaign. She feels coursework and activities at OHIO taught her strong critical thinking skills, which she is now able to put into practice.
“I think my degree in Sociology really prepared me well for a career in Human Resources because I’m able to talk and relate to so many different kinds of people who come from all different walks of life,” Richards says.
