Abstract: Interested in using corpus methods? In this colloquium, we talk about our research on proximal anaphoric demonstratives in L2 student writing. Using corpus-based methods, we explore the use of demonstratives pronouns and determiners in high- and low-rated university student argumentative essays. We present the findings of this comparative analysis of this/these in student writing and discuss implications for L2 writing pedagogy.
