The Linguistics Colloquium series presents Ohio University alumnus Greg King ’99 discussing “The Japanese University System and the Challenges of EFL in Japan” on Friday, Nov. 22, from 12:55 to 1:50 p.m. in Gordy 301.
King is Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Culture at Chubu University. He has an MA in Applied Linguistics from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.
King also will receive the Tanaka-OHIO Award for Excellence in Global Engagement at the Global Engagement Awards Gala on Nov. 20. This event is part of the annual International Education Week celebration at Ohio University.
Abstract: The Japanese education system is quite different from what we know in the United States. This presentation will explain the Japanese education system and the differences between university life in Japan and the U.S. This will include discussion of how the decrease in population is changing the students that we see in our classes. He will also look at EFL classes at Chubu University and talk about the current situation in Japan in relation to working in EFL at the university level.
