Dr. Amado Láscar reads from his poetry collection, La misma lluvia por distintos cerros (The Same Rain Over Different Hills).
The Modern Languages Department is having a series of readings in Spanish by faculty and graduate students.
This series is organized by Dr. Melissa Figueroa and Dr. Daniel Torres in order to promote Spanish and Spanish American Literature on campus and to bring together Spanish speakers and readers with contemporary authors.
In October, Figueroa, Assistant Professor of Spanish, and Torres, Professor of Spanish, both from Puerto Rico, read from Figueroa’s collection of short stories, Nota de duelo (Mourning Note), and Torres’ book of poetry, Poemas para leerse en la calle (Poetry to be Read in the Street).
In November, Latin American Studies graduate student Luis Enrique Mendoza Chávez from Perú and Dr. Amado Láscar, Associate Professor of Spanish from Chile, read their poetry.
In January, Dr. José “Pepo” Delgado-Costa, Professor of Spanish from Puerto Rico, is presenting his new novel Guasábara (Uprising), and former Ohio University professor Xelo Candel Vila from Spain will visit in March to read her poetry.
