CHI has always had outstanding staff members, and we all too rarely acknowledge their work and contributions. Kara Dunfee, who is currently splitting her work hours between CHI and African American Studies, has been working for Ohio University for 30 years now and for that, she was recently recognized by President M. Duane Nellis.
Kara has been with CHI for 23 years, and I can attest to her effectiveness. If she weren’t so quiet in going about her work, more of us at the university might know to turn to her to get things done. Kara started in the History Department office, moved to CHI when we were still in Brown House (and would be for some time to come), and now commutes between Sing Tao Center (CHI) and the old Woolworth’s building (African American Studies). She’s married to Scott and has two daughters and will be a grandmother early next year. To me, she is one of the people who make our program work and who provide the behind-the-scenes support we need at the university.
