CLJC Hosts Mock Law School Class, Admissions Discussion, Oct. 15

Students who are interested in attending law school will have the chance to attend a law school class without leaving the Athens campus.

Professor Melinda S. Molina of Capital University Law School joins the Center for Law, Justice & Culture on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Bentley 240.

“This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in law school to explore legal education,” said Larry Hayman, OHIO’s Center for Law, Justice & Culture Pre-Law Advisor & Specialist. “Students will be able to experience the Socratic and case book methods used in law schools. At the same time, they will be able to ask questions about the law school admissions and financial aid processes.”

The event is free, no registration is required, and all students are encouraged to attend.

Molinda’s scholarship focuses on how the law impacts subordinate and marginalized groups in the United States. She co-authored two national studies on Latina lawyers. The first is a comprehensive nationwide examination of Latinas in the legal profession across all major legal sectors: National Study on the Status of Latinas in the Legal Profession, Few and Far Between. The second is a subsequent study of Latina public interest attorneys: La Voz de la Abogada Latina: Challenges and Rewards in Serving the Public Interest Sector. These studies are the first of their kind to provide both qualitative and quantitative data on the experiences and status of Latinas in the legal profession, on a national level, and across all major legal sectors employing a mixed method transformative design, exploring and analyzing both the formative and career-related experiences of more than 800 Latina attorneys.

Lisa Diem, Esq., Director of the Paralegal Program at Capital University Law School, will present on Capital University Law School’s post-baccalaureate certificate programs for non-lawyer professionals within the legal profession, including the Paralegal, Legal Nurse Consultant and Life Care Planner programs.

Jason Owen, JD, Interim Director of Admission, also will be on hand to lead a discussion on admissions and financial aid.
