Dr. Molly R Morris, Professor of Biological Sciences at Ohio University, presented one of the plenary lectures at the International Conference of Poeciliid Biologists held in Mexico City in September.
The conference meets every other year and attracts biologists from all over the world. Talks include topics as diverse as the evolution of sex chromosomes and the placenta to fish welfare.
Morris summarized work from her laboratory in relation to disruptive selection on growth rates and fluctuating asymmetry (FA), explaining how studies of swordtail fishes led to a collaboration on FA in fingerprints as an indicator of propensity to develop diabetes.
