Ohio University alum Dr. Marlis Rahman passed away on July 28, 2018, at the age of 76, according to his Wikipedia biography.
He earned an M.S. in Botany, followed by a Ph.D. in 1989 from the College of Arts & Sciences at OHIO.
His academic career at Andalas University included rising from chair of the Biology Department to dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and eventually serving as rektor (chancellor) of the university from 1997-2005.
From there he served as vice governor of West Sumatra from 2005-09, followed by a year as governor.
“He had very successful career in conservation biology and administration,” noted Dr. Irwin Ungar.
