Ohio University alum and meteorologist Alek Krautmann created a social media storm when he brought bagels to work sliced the St. Louis Bread Company way—vertically, not horizontally, reports Today in a story headlined “This is the most upsetting way to slice a bagel.”
Krautmann earned an M.S. in Geography from the College of Arts & Sciences at OHIO in 2012. His LinkedIn page says he is a Program Coordination Officer at NOAA for the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service.
On Wednesday, Twitter user @AlekKrautmann sparked a fiery debate when he shared a photo of two boxes of bagels from Panera Bread that had been pre-sliced, not horizontally, but vertically … like tiny loaves of bread. Sad, sad bread.
“Today I introduced my coworkers to the St Louis secret of ordering bagels bread sliced,” he posted. “It was a hit!”
But it was most certainly not a hit across social media as thousands of people have since weighed in and many are very, very upset.
According to his Twitter, the publicity earned Krautmann a gift certificate from Panera Bread for free bagels for a year.
