Deadline for application extended to March 2, 2019.
The Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute in collaboration with the Global Health Initiative has extended its application deadline to give students additional time to apply for the Tropical Disease Research and Service Learning summer program 2019.
This is an opportunity to gain practical field research experience and work in interdisciplinary teams. This 18-year initiative has contributed to knowledge about and mitigated the impact of a little-known disease called Chagas in Ecuador. With student participation, the institute completes projects with positive health impacts for Ecuadorian communities.
Participants take part in interdisciplinary research with social and biological components. They can observe applied research, work in a biosafety level 2 field lab, and learn about the social determinants of health.
Students also contribute to service in the communities and learn about intercultural communication while working in a team.
This summer, participants will be constructing an “anti-Chagas” home and doing some painting of the walls of a community school.
