Alumni News | Barber Named to Ohio Arts Council

Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced the appointment of Ohio University alum David B. Barber ’92, creative services consultant for Nationwide in Columbus, to the Ohio Arts Council in a Dec. 14 news release.

His term began Dec. 14, 2018, and ends July 1, 2020. The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.

Barber earned a B.A. in English from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.

The ArtsOhio blog commented on the appointment:

Collins. “Through his work as a creative professional and his extensive personal involvement in the arts, Dave has dedicated his time and talents to artistic outreach in myriad fields. Whether creating graphic design elements for national communication campaigns or donating his time to assist local charities in their outreach efforts, Dave’s dedication and passion exemplifies the positive impact the arts have on all aspects of our lives.”

Born and raised in Kettering, Ohio, Mr. Barber graduated from Ohio University with an English degree with specializations in art and film and continued his art education by taking courses at the Columbus College of Art and Design and Columbus State. He is a Creative Services Consultant at Nationwide, where he has worked for 24 years. A “big idea” creator, Mr. Barber applies his graphic design and concepting expertise to advise and develop national communications campaigns that synthesize traditional, environmental, digital, and social marketing techniques. His work has been awarded accolades from MarCom, Graphic Design USA, SIAA, and HOW Magazine.
