Houghton Mifflin’s Best American Essays 2018, the latest in an annual series of anthologies marking the finest nonfiction essays published over the previous year, lists three Ohio University faculty and one current Ph.D. candidate in the Notable Essays section.
Fiction Ph.D. candidate Lizzie Tran is noted for her essay “Miss Saigon,” which appeared in Prairie Schooner this past year.
Recent Ph.D. graduate and current Visiting Assistant Professor Kelly Sundberg was listed for her essay “Mates” which appeared in Gulf Coast.
Joan Connor, Professor of English, is noted for her essay “At the Circus“ which appeared in Bennington Review.
Dinty W. Moore, Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing, received a notable citation for his essay “Beyond the Primordial Ooze: ‘Real’ Americans and the Supposed Divide Between Science and Religion,“ which appeared in Creative Nonfiction.
This year’s Best American Essays was guest-edited by Hilton Als, past winner of both a Pulitzer Prize and a Guggenheim award.
