Ohio University alum Alex Burke was quoted in a Columbus Dispatch article headlined “Ohio University alumni group volunteers to create more sustainable communities.”
Burke earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of Arts & Sciences and an Environmental Studies Certificate in 2015, followed by an M.S. in Environmental Studies from the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs.
“The rain actually helped,” said Alex Burke, 25, of Columbus, as he bent his legs, pushed back on his heels and yanked out a 3-foot-high weed among rows of tomato plants in a tunnel on one of the 12 urban farm plots that make up Franklinton Farms.
Burke, an Ohio University graduate, was among a dozen members of the OHIO Sustainability Alumni Network who put on their work gloves and hiking boots to help out on the more than 2-acre network of produce spread across former vacant lots in Franklinton.
