Linguistics also offers a TEFL Certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), and would like to congratulate the students who earned it. These students now have their ticket to teach English abroad, and the department looks forward to hearing about their experiences.
The department also offers foreign language instruction in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Swahili, with a minor in Japanese. In Arabic, 42 students completed their first or second years, with several who plan to continue this fall. We would also like to recognize students who have students who completed Chinese language training. The following students completed their third year Chinese certificate: Emma Haney, Margaret Kuhns, Cameron Mauzy, Andrew Wilkison, and Meriah Woolery. Congratulations to the following students for completing their fourth year of Chinese: Oladunni Ajayi, Henry Bauer, Melody Diaz, Cameron Fields, Kelsey Gerard, Hunter Stanley, Hannah Yinger, Robert Schroeder. One student completed the minor in Japanese this year. Currently, 15 others are working toward their minor, so we expect many more completions in the next two years. Finally, we are proud to say that 39 students completed their first or second year of Swahili.
