Dr. Richard Vedder, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Economics at Ohio University, was quoted extensively in an ABC news story headlined “NYU’s free med school offer stirs debate over student debt.”
“You don’t see too much talk about, ‘Let’s make MBA programs free,’” said Richard Vedder, distinguished professor of economics emeritus at Ohio University. “That’s seen as kind of an investment. Medicine has a non-pecuniary service component associated with it.”

Vedder also sees reason to believe other medical schools will be looking for ways to make college more affordable and leaning on their most successful alumni to pay for it.
“Some of the best medical schools in the country are very well-endowed schools or have the capacity to be well-endowed,” he said.
