Ohio Governor John R. Kasich announced the appointment of Dr. Timothy G. Anderson to the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board for a three-year term beginning June 28.
Anderson, Associate Professor of Geography, is a historical geographer with research interests in three main areas.
“First, much of my current research focuses on the historical settlement geography of the United States, especially with regard to the historical production of regional cultural landscapes and identities. Second, I am interested in the historical settlement geography of Ohio during the early National period, with an emphasis on sub-regional cultural landscape formation. Finally, I have a long-standing research interest involving the production of cultural landscapes associated with Germanic Diasporas, especially in North America and Europe,” he says on his webpage.
Anderson joins a board made up of architects, historians, planners, architectural historians, archaeologists, and public members from around the state with expertise in Ohio history, architecture, and archaeology.
The 17-member Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board, which meets four times a year, advises the State Historic Preservation Officer and the Ohio History Connection Board of Trustees on historic preservation issues, according to the board’s website. Each year, the advisory board reviews National Register of Historic Places nominations for about 30 to 50 buildings, sites, structures, objects, and historic districts. “Additionally, the board advises the State Historic Preservation Officer on the distribution of Certified Local Government grant funds for historic preservation projects in Ohio communities.”
