A four-year study of the state’s bobcat population for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, by Dr. Viorel Popescu, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at Ohio University, was discussed at a meeting at ODNR headquarters on April 12, says a KATV story headlined “Polarizing plan would potentially allow bobcat trapping in Ohio.”
A big point of discussion is Ohio University research into bobcat numbers that would be done before a potential trapping, but not before a vote.
“That information specifically is going to provide population estimate for two areas of the state,” said Mike Reynolds with the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

Larry Moore of the Beaver Creek News-Current also wrote about the meeting in an article headlined “Deer, river otter and bobcat dominate wildlife proposals.”
And the Athens News reported “Commissioners OK resolution against bobcat trapping plan.”
