Dr. Patrick Alan Smith, professor of English at Bainbridge State College, Georgia, lost his three-year battle with cancer and passed away on April 22, reports the Tallahassee Democrat.
Smith earned a Ph.D. in English from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University in 1999.
Dr. Smith graduated from Penn State University in 1990 with a degree in English and from Ohio University with a PhD in 1997. He authored numerous books including Tim O’Brien: A Critical Companion; The True Bones of My Life: Essays on the Fiction of Jim Harrison; Conversations with Tim O’Brien; Conversations with William Gibson; and Thematic Guide to Popular Short Fiction as well as being a ghost writer of numerous books. His work has appeared in Studies in Short Fiction, Quarter after Eight, Scribner’s American Writers, Scribner’s British Writers, Aethlon, and other publications. In addition, he was associate editor of Bookmarks, a book review publication.
