Twelve Ohio University students enrolled in Modern Languages Russian courses (first through third year) went to the College of Wooster to compete in the 8th Annual Russian Undergraduate Olympiada of Spoken Russian on Feb. 24, earning the following prizes:
- Usman Suerkulov (RUS 2120) took 1st place in the Heritage Learners category.
- Alex Yu (RUS 3120 & RUS 3560) took 2nd place in the Heritage Learners category
- Alivia Chaplin (RUS 3120 & RUS 3560) took 3rd place in the Level 3 (Third-Year Russian) category.
All the OHIO students dedicated a month to a very rigorous and time-consuming preparation. Special thanks to Academic Advisor Tetyana Dovbnya for her great dedication and numerous hours spent with the first-year students in preparation for the competition. Moreover, she went to Wooster to accompany them and served as a judge for one of the panels.
“I think that you would agree with me that for such a small program as ours, this is a huge success and it proves the vitality of our program,” said Russian Lecturer Mila Shevchenko.
A complete list of the Olympiada results are available online.
Congratulations to the Russian student competitors and staff!
