The Linguistics Department announces the Chinese Language program’s annual gala to celebrate the traditional Chinese New Year at Ohio University on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 3-7 p.m. in Baker Ballroom, with performances by Ohio University students and local children who are learning Chinese language and culture.
Tickets are on sale at Baker Center, for $10.
The Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, has been celebrated for over 4,000 years in China. It is based on Chinese Luna’s calendar. This year the New Year’s day falls on Feb. 16, the beginning of the Year of the Dog.
Ohio University and the local East Asian community have been celebrating this special occasion for over three decades. This year’s Chinese New Year Gala will again be celebrated with performance of Chinese song and dance plus a Chinese banquet, with food catered from several local Chinese restaurants. The gala is hosted annually by the Linguistics Department, along with the support of many sponsors.
