The Psychology Colloquium series presents Dr. Ryan Marek on “Understanding the Role of Psychopathology in Bariatric Surgery Outcomes” on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 11:50 a.m. in Porter 102.
Marek is an Assistant Professor of Health Service Psychology at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. He received his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University and completed his APA-accredited internship at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Marek’s research and clinical interests include the intersection of psychological assessment and behavioral medicine. Specifically, he has focused on how objective psychological/personality assessments (with emphasis on the MMPI) can inform the need for pre-surgical intervention and post-surgical follow-up care in bariatric and spine surgery settings. He also has clinical and research interests in eating disorders and obesity.
