Prior to the election Landsman, 41, was named Cincinnatian of the Year for 2017 by Mayor John Cranley for his work on the Cincinnati Preschool Promise. He unsuccessfully ran for City Council in 2013 before he finished seventh in November. Endorsed by the Democrats, he was raised in Oxford, Ohio, and now lives in Mount Washington.
