The Wayne National Forest has a full-time, permanent position open for a Engineering Technician (Facilities), GS–0802–09/10.
General Description – The Wayne National Forest is seeking qualified candidates interested in an exciting career as an Engineering Technician with a focus in Facilities Management (administrative and recreation facilities). The position will be a permanent full-time appointment. The duty station will be located at either the Wayne National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Nelsonville, Ohio, or the Ironton Ranger District Office in Pedro, Ohio. The Wayne National Forest hopes to fill this position early in 2018.

Major Duties of the Position
The incumbent will serve as an Engineering Technician with primary responsibilities for administrative and recreation facilities management on three administrative units for the Wayne National Forest. The position will also assist in the management of transportation and a variety of other engineering projects as needed. This position is responsible for a variety of duties, some of which include:
- Supporting the senior engineer in developing the annual plans and budget for the facilities and road operation and maintenance programs;
- Assisting in development of deferred maintenance projects, priorities, and cost estimates;
- Assisting in the evaluation of facility plans and design objectives, including conducting surveys and establishing necessary data to initiate facility designs;
- Preparing conventional designs and specifications for various engineering projects or systems;
- Preparing engineering drawings using a CAD system;
- Performing surveys and investigations at project sites;
- Preparing preliminary site investigations for new or proposed structures, drainage areas, and feasible layout of facilities.
- Assisting in development and administration of construction and maintenance contracts as an Engineering Representative (ER) or a Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR); and
- Conducting periodic inspections and safety and condition surveys of structures and facilities such as buildings, water and wastewater systems, recreation site facilities, and utilities.
Prospective applicant should have:
- Knowledge of the technical civil engineering methods, principles, requirements, and practices applicable to facilities management;
- Understanding of agency engineering policy, processes, and data management systems;
- Skills in written and verbal communications to deal with internal and external representatives and partners;
- Knowledge of contract formats, specifications, and administration;
- A willingness to work independently and an interest in being a member of a high-functioning and collaborative team; and
- A willingness and ability to work in both field and office environments in varied conditions and seasons.
