The Center for Campus & Community Engagement hosts a Campus-Community Meet Up on Monday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Athena Cinema in uptown Athens.
The gathering opens with networking opportunities for regional residents and Ohio University faculty and staff from 4 to 4:20 p.m. and closes with the same from 5:40 to 6 p.m., with locally sourced food and beverages available. Sandwiched in between will be 13 fast-paced, five-minute presentations from partners from the community and Ohio University faculty, staff and students.
The event is designed as a catalyst for growing the number and depth of engagements between Ohio University and the community.
“The energy and example that comes from mutually beneficial learning engagements between regional and campus partners is significant. OHIO President M. Duane Nellis has announced his attention to create an eco-system of engagement at the university. This event helps the region and university take stalk of what is already going on, as we work to build this system,” said John Winnenberg, community liaison for the center.
Examples of the engagements to be featured are community media films created for community partners by the Scripps College media program and Mountain Bike Trail development partnership between the Wayne Forest and the Patton College of Education’s Recreation & Sports Pedagogy program. A range of projects taking place in the Little Cities of Black Diamonds coal mining region adjacent to the Athens campus will also set the example for engagements beyond the immediate Athens area.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Winnenberg at jwinnenb54@gmail.com.
