Marietta College is hosted Tres Vidas, a chamber music theatre work.

Students from the Spanish Club and Intermediate Spanish courses attended the play Tres Vidas at Marietta College on Oct. 13 with their instructors Liliana Alvarez, Joanna Mitchell and Nelson Hippolyte.

“It was Friday the 13th, but it was a great day for us!” said Mitchell. “The students got to hear the words of important artists and activists dramatized by a Chilean-American writer, Marjorie Agosin. The evening also included food from a local Mexican-American restaurant, Tampico. The cultural tapestry we experienced was incredible.”

Tres Vidas is based on the lives of three legendary Latin American Women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni. The text is by Marjorie Agosin. The show features a wide stylistic range of music, including popular and folk songs of Mexico, El Salvador and Argentina, vocal and instrumental tangos by Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla and new music written especially for the Core Ensemble by Osvaldo Golijov, Orlando Garcia, Pablo Ortiz and Manuel DeMurga.
