Dr. Daniel Torres, Spanish Professor in Modern Languages, a founding member of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Poetry and a past board member, returned as a presenter to the Universidad de Sevilla (Spain) during the XIII Conference of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry.
Torres presented “Finezas barrocas entre Sor Juana y Sigüenza” [Baroque Finesse between Sor Juana and Sigüenza]. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora were two colonial poets of Latin American from the Barroco de Indias [Spanish American Baroque] with a rocky friendship as two creole intellectuals in colonial Mexico. The conference of nearly 500 was held Oct. 18-20.
Torres specializes in colonial and contemporary Spanish-American poetry and in literary theory.
