Taryn Osborne has been incredibly active in the Ohio University community during her three years at Ohio University. A junior from Cincinnati studying Political Science Pre-Law she has picked up a Spanish Minor as well as the Certificate in Law Justice & Culture.

She is also very involved in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Osborne has been an active member in Alpha Gamma Delta for three years and is a Barbara Caldwell Scholar. Additionally, she has been active in the Pre-Law Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, since her freshman year and is the secretary for the Ohio University Mock Trial Team, an organization she joined last year.

If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Osborne has been Larry Hayman’s Pre-Law Learning Community Leader for the last two years, after enrolling in the course her freshman year.

Last spring, Osborne also went on Dr. Haley Duschinski’s spring break study abroad trip to Northern Ireland. Osborne says that the trip was a transformative experience for her, even though she was a little nervous.

“I had never been overseas before,” Osborne remarks, “but I wanted to explore a topic first-hand where you could really observe the impacts [of the Troubles] on the community.”

Osborne also really enjoys pursuing the Law Justice & Culture Certificate.

“I was really excited to apply for it because it was exciting be able to take courses that directly explore law.” To people considering the certificate, Osborne says, “Apply even if you aren’t sure you are interested in law because there is a very diverse group of students in the program, and you are able to consider a variety of different perspectives.”

Her favorite LJC course has been Professor Rebecca Collins’ Criminal Justice class.

In the future, Osborne plans to go to law school, as she has always known she wanted to. She is using the courses in the LJC certificate to help her explore types of law in which she is interested. She would like to go to law school in Tennessee or Case Western because of their option to complete the 3L year abroad.
